The Harrisburg Mall and Swatara Township are growing together. New construction means new beginnings for the surrounding area.
"We're just getting ready to open our brand new $23 million, 16 screen state-of-the-art theatre," says Mark Nobile, General Manager of Harrisburg Mall.
It's been a long time coming and the finishing touches are still being made, but come Friday, employees at the Harrisburg Mall promise a movie theatre experience like nothing else you'll find nearby.
"This theatre has some of the greatest finishes you're ever going to see, maybe in Pennsylvania, maybe in parts of the United States."
Nobile says comfy seating, unique changing light patterned walls, and 100 percent digital video and sound, will separate the great escape theatre from other cinemas.
"Everything is very high end looking, but it's not anymore expensive than another theatre, you just feel like your pampered here."
While the theatre is the mall's newest edition, the growth won't stop there.
"We're also working on our streetscape, a $13 million project that includes Panera Bread, Barnes & Noble and a big sports grill."
While the mall has seen some serious growth, it's easy to see how the surrounding area has seen their fair share of development as well. Tech Port and housing in Swatara Township have also been growing.
Nobile says the addition of Bass Pro Shop, the new restaurants and hotels in the area, and Hershey just down the road are giving people reason to not just stop by Swatara Township, but rather stay a few days. It's economic change he says people can expect to see more of.
The mall streetscape which will include the Barnes & Noble and Panera Bread will open in May 2008
